How often should I clean my gutters

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLEAN MY GUTTERS

Did you know that a gutter that is not working properly due to blockage can actually damage the paint and siding on your house?  If the water isn’t flowing where it’s supposed to be, that means it’s probably splashing to the ground.  Which in turn is splashing up on the side of your house.  This can cost you thousands of dollars to repaint your house.

HOW TO AVOID THIS

To avoid this problem it’s simple.  Clean your gutters at least twice a year.  If you’re good on a ladder, grab some gloves, a trash bag and get up there.  If you’re not afraid of heights and you have a walkable roof, that is going to be the fastest way to clean them.  If you’re afraid of heights or have too slanted of a roof, then moving the ladder to each climb is suggested.  Another tip is to clean them after they have dried out.  Unless you’re ok with the mess it’s going to make being wet and muddy.

THE DANGER OF GUTTER CLEANING

Gutter cleaning can be dangerous, and sometimes it’s best just to call a professional.  Regular gutter cleaning maintenance is an essential part of home ownership and will prevent costly repairs in the future.  Gutters are easily over looked but are a very important part of your home. They help keep water away from your foundation and most houses are designed to have gutters to divert water away from the foundation. Moisture in a structure’s foundation leads to exterior cracks in the brick and mortar, which can lead to extensive structural damage of your property. Maintaining gutters and downspouts is one of the most often overlooked jobs around the house. It is also one of the most important, since clogged or leaking gutters can quickly lead to peeling paint, rotten fascia boards, or worse. How often should you clean your gutters? Well that really depends on how many trees you have on your property or close to your house.
